About Us
Hoppes and Associates is a well-known, San Diego law firm with a limited area of practice. Limited to Family Law, Hoppes and Associates handles cases involving divorce, paternity, domestic violence, guardianships, or adoption. Our cases typically include issues of child custody, visitation, child support enforcement, spousal support, property division, and restraining orders. Additionally, potentially complex family cases involving psychological evaluations, minor’s counsel, jurisdictional disputes, changes of venue, contempt of court, criminal, bankruptcy, or The Bureau of Child Support Enforcement frequently present themselves.
The senior attorney in the firm is Carl J. Hoppes. Mr. Hoppes is a trial lawyer who has represented clients in literally hundreds of contested trials. Nationwide and local non-profit organizations including INTERNATIONAL POPCO, Inc., a father’s rights organization, and GOLD, a grandparent’s rights organization, have selected attorney Hoppes as staff attorney for both consulting and client representation. Clients of Mr. Hoppes appreciate his wisdom, perspective, his straightforward, honest approach to difficult emotional disputes, and his aggressive courtroom demeanor if a matter cannot be settled amicably. Prior to limiting his practice to family law, Mr. Hoppes handled jury trials for matters of criminal defense, real estate transactions, and business torts.
On a more personal level, Mr. Hoppes has been married to attorney Traci Hoppes since 1985, and has four children, Catrina, Tom, Jack and Cierra. He went to Iowa State University receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Psychology in 1985, and attended Northern Illinois University College of Law immediately thereafter. Attorney Hoppes worked for law firms in Illinois and Iowa before starting his practice of law in California in 1990. His interests include weight training, psychology, and family oriented activities at church and home.
Traci Hoppes received her bachelor’s degree in music performance from Iowa State University, graduating Phi Kappa Phi with a 3.83 cumulative grade point average. She graduated in the top 9%, Cum Laude, from the University of San Diego College of Law in 1992, receiving the single highest grades in trusts and estates, and constitutional law. Her treatise in Business Planning received the highest paper grade, and she received the Distinguished Service Award, 1992. She was Editor of Sidebar, the weekly law school newspaper, and was selected as the Legal Research Specialist for the course in Lawyering Skills. Mrs. Hoppes was selected to assist Professor Bernard Siegan in his research, and in 1998 worked as a substitute adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Business Administration. She has performed contract work in numerous local San Diego law firms, at both the Superior Court and Appellate Court levels.
Traci’s areas of personal interest are playing flute and piano, teaching music to her children, and homemaking. She is active in her church, and is a genuinely humble, service oriented person.
